Friday Nites in Caroline presents a Bluegrass extravaganza featuring Flatland Drive and New & Used Bluegrass band on Friday, March 9, 7:00 pm at the Caroline County Public Library in Denton.
Flatland Drive is a traditional bluegrass band with contemporary styling. Established in 2009, their sound is influenced by the earliest patriarchs of bluegrass music, but they also pay homage to the likes of Lonesome River Band, Bluegrass Album Band and The Seldom Scene. Flatland Drive’s self-titled debut album is composed entirely of original compositions. The members of Flatland Drive – Brad Turner, Alan Rausch, Curt Fox, Lee and R. Collins reside in either Delaware or Maryland.
New and Used Bluegrass Band has at its core three members who have been friends since high school – Ed Finkner, Toby Price and Alan Breeding. Jon Simmons rounds out the group. They have played for fun and in various bluegrass groups over the years. In addition to enjoying each other’s bluegrass roots, there are roots of friendship that make the band even more fun. Ed Finkner (sometimes known as Fink Floyd) lives near Longwoods, Maryland and plays guitar and sings lead on many of the songs they perform. Alan Breeding lives outside of Greensboro and plays banjo with the group. Toby Price lives near Preston and plays mandolin and sings lead and baritone. Jon Simmons lives near Greensboro and plays fiddle and sings lead and tenor. New and Used Bluegrass is currently hosting various guest bass players.
