Friday Nites in Caroline presents ‘The Mary Shaver Band’ on March 8, 2013

Caroline County Public Library
February 2013
Denton, MD

Get ready for powerful soul, blues and rock as Friday Nites in Caroline presents ‘The Mary Shaver Band’ on Friday, March 8, 7:00 p.m. at Caroline County Public Library in Denton.

Picture: Mary ShaverThe Mary Shaver Band plays sweet soul, blues and rock n roll around Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, Baltimore and Pennsylvania. The band can soothe you with a soft soul ballad or pull you in with traditional hard core blues standards. Mary’s high energy vocals are sustained by gutsy guitar riffs with skillful and soulful drumming which seals the group’s foundation. The Mary Shaver Band is a force with which to be reckoned.

The band includes Mary Shaver on vocals; Dave Sherman guitar and vocals; Eric Shramek on bass and Roger Edsall plays guitar, vocals, harmonica and percussion.

Mary Shaver has been singing all her life. She is first and foremost a blues artist influenced by the likes of Slim Harpo and Big Mama Thornton. She labels her own style as “Texas, Louisiana and Chicago Blues meets Memphis Soul,” and local critics and musicians have likened her powerful voice to all her idols. But her path as an artist has not been a particularly straight or smooth one. Music is an all-consuming passion for Mary, evident in her hectic schedule. Mary can often be found belting out old-school blues with Dave Sherman (guitar) and Roger Edsall (harmonica), a pair she’s known since 1999. They are blues purists, whose emotionally raw rhythms draw out much of the very best in Mary’s vocals. Mary has also joined forces with Cindy Cain and Janine Wilson as Les Tomates Chaudes / The Hot Tomatoes, an all-girl blues power trio that delivers the goods on such classics as Etta James’ “I Prefer You.” And yes, it is a mystery where she finds the time.

Friday Nites in Caroline presents ‘Bay Country Chorus’

October 2012
Federalsburg

Friday Nites in Caroline presents The Bay Country Chorus on Friday, October 26, 7:00 pm at The Caroline County Public Library in Federalsburg.

The Bay Country Chorus is an all-male barbershop chorus founded in 1995, and has a proud tradition of performance and service to the community. Barbershop style music is four- part, a cappella, close-harmony singing with the melody sung in the second voice called the “lead.” The tenor harmonizes above the lead, the bass sings the lowest harmonizing notes and the baritone provides the in-between notes to form consonant, pleasing chords.

The music is in the style of “old songs” from the heyday of Tin Pan Alley and is suitable for all ages.

More at about them at www.baycountrychorus.org

The Bay Country Chorus performs at numerous events and venues on the Mid-Shore throughout the year, with the majority of them centered near Easton. These include library concerts, street singing in Easton, singing at retirement and assisted living facilities and holiday songs at the annual Christmas tree lighting at Easton Memorial Hospital.

The Chorus has grown from the original 13 members to a current roster of 38 members. The Barbershop Harmony Society is the largest all-male singing organization in the world with approximately 30,000 members.
