This winter and spring, Adkins Arboretum will offer education opportunities for home school students. Students ages 7 to 14 will learn about the natural world through two six-week programs led by Children’s Program Coordinator Jenny Houghton.
In The Forest in Winter, home school students will explore the wonders of winter through lessons focused on animal adaptations to cold, winter tree identification, plant life cycles, snowflakes, states of matter and cloud formation. This programs runs Thursdays, Jan. 19 to March 1 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The fee per student is $55 for members, $70 for the general public.
In Chesapeake Bay Eco-Discovery for Home School Students, students will discover the wonders of the Chesapeake Bay through exciting, hands-on activities. Participants will explore interrelationships among Bay organisms, identify unique physical characteristics of the Chesapeake Bay and investigate factors affecting the Bay’s health. Learning opportunities will include field work in the Arboretum’s wetland and stream habitats. This program runs Thursdays, April 12 to May 17 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The fee per student is $55 for members, $70 for the general public.
