NEWS RELEASE-Update on Attempted Child Abduction

April 24, 2012 3:23 P.M.

The Federalsburg Police Department received a call on April 23, 2012 at approx 3:10 P.M. for a possible attempted child abduction. Investigation showed that a young male was walking home from the bus stop and had stopped to wait for a friend. The young male advised that a car occupied by three white males turned onto West Central Ave and were staring at him. He advised that the car pulled close to the sidewalk and he became scared so he immediately ran towards his friend that was on West Central Ave.

With the assistance of a very observant citizen in the area, the operator was indentified and later the three subjects were located with assistance of Salisbury Police Department, Delmar Police Department, and Maryland State Police. This turned out to be a case of persons doing things that they think are clever, but turn out not to be very smart.

The good that came from this incident is that the young person knew what to do and reacted; many parents are talking with their children and do realize that this type of incident could happen here; and three teenagers learned a valuable lesson on how quick small things can go bad. I, as Police Chief, feel that it opened all of our eyes and the town will be better because of all the cooperation that was received from the citizens, the 9-1-1 center, and all agencies that were contacted.

Respectfully,

Donald R. Nagel
Chief of Police
Federalsburg Police Department
